What was the problem?

Women from non-technical backgrounds wanted to transition into Android development but needed hands-on guidance to learn the technical skills and gain confidence working with code.

What did I do?

I participated in the so called Bumble Tech Academy program that coached women from non-technical roles into developer jobs, directly mentoring 2 participants and coaching 2 more as they learned Android or Kotlin development.

How did I do it?

  1. Met regularly with mentees to understand where they were in their learning and what they needed help with.
  2. Guided them through programming fundamentals and helped them get comfortable writing code and solving problems, both with help and on their own.
  3. Stayed involved after they joined other teams in the same company to help them continue growing.

What did I achieve?

Of the 8 women in the cohort, 7 moved into developer positions, with 3 or of 4 of the ones I coached advancing to higher-paying roles. The mentorship helped them build the confidence and skills needed to succeed as Android engineers.
