Own the device distribution
What was the problem?
Device distribution was inequitable and inefficientâsome engineers lacked testing devices they needed while others had devices sitting idle in the office, creating frustration, bottlenecks in testing workflows, and wasted capital on devices not actively in use.
What did I do?
I took ownership of device allocation, auditing current distribution, consolidating idle devices from the office, and implementing a fair acquisition process that ensured every engineer had access to the testing devices they needed while eliminating waste.
How did I do it?
- I surveyed the department to understand who had devices and which testing devices were actively being used.
- I identified engineers without adequate testing devices and located idle devices stored in the office.
- I redistributed the idle office devices to engineers who needed them for active testing work.
- I established a clear device request process so engineers could articulate their testing needs.
- I coordinated with the office manager to purchase only the additional devices required to close remaining gaps.
- I documented the new allocation and process, making it the standard for how device requests would be handled going forward.
What did I achieve?
I achieved equitable device distribution across the departmentâevery engineer had access to the testing devices they neededâwhile eliminating waste and reducing unnecessary capital spend. The transparent allocation process became the standard, improving testing velocity and ensuring hardware investments directly supported active development work.
